It's a Shame
(Nick Knirk)
It’s a Shame
By Nick Knirk
I’m on the streets tonight
In the city I call home
I’m running from the life I lived
And living a life to roam
I’m like a frightened bird that’s broken free
With a second chance to fly
I’m too afraid to look behind to see
The cage that drags close by
How do I face myself
and see the other side?
When my eyes are made of tears
Every time I look inside
It’s a shame
Because it started it out so right
But then we hide away the good
And bring our darkness to the light
It’s a shame
To feel that you’re alone
In the bottom of a canyon
Behind a wall of stone
It’s a shame
As they come, memories pile
In the corner out of sight
Hidden by my head held high
And guarding fists of might
Sometimes I feel I can’t stop moving
Lord, help me find my way
If I stop to catch my breath
Will I make it through today?
It’s not one time, or one place,
Or one thing that went wrong
It’s the dream that ruled my life
The one you knew about all along
It’s a shame
We look back on our lives
But then we hide away the good
And bring our darkness to the light
It’s a shame
To feel that you’re alone
In the bottom of a canyon
Behind a wall of stone
It’s a shame
Well maybe I should have held your hand
When the lights were turned down low
Or laid down all my dreams and
Watched our lives unfold
It’s a shame
Because it started out so right
But then we hide away the good
And bring our darkness to the light
It’s a shame
To feel that you’re alone
In the bottom of a canyon
Behind a wall of stone
It’s a shame
